Saint Kateri Music Ministry
Goals
Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Roman Catholic Church in Lagrangeville, New York is the second largest Catholic parish in New York State following only St. Patrick's in New York City in size. To support the diverse needs of its broad parishioner base, St. Kateri has a dedicated Music Ministry that supports the Church both for its many regular services and special occasions. Given the broad scope of the role of the Music Ministry, it was determined that a website needed to be created to inform parishioners of the events and happenings of the Music Ministry, as well as offer support to those needing assistance in selecting music for weddings and funerals. In addition, a forum was needed to provide Music Ministry members support relating to scheduling, music and general communications.
Solution
As in all of our solutions, the initial step was to gain a deeper understanding of the requirements for this site: audience identification, definition of disparate audience needs, determination of the value the site would provide, identification of how visual elements would best project the site mission and understanding how the site would be managed at launch and into the future. With this knowledge in place, the eCore team developed an inviting Information Architecture that allowed easy access to key content including audio files to help guide users in selecting music for Weddings and Funerals. The site structure was also focused on promoting the Music Ministry and encouraging participation. From a design perspective, a clean visual identity was created that put the focus on the content while still reflecting the overall mission of the Ministry and Church. With the architecture and design in place, an Open Source Content Management System (CMS), MovableType, was put in place to allow Music Ministry staff to easily keep the site updated and current. A separate, log-in based area of the site was also developed to support internal Ministry communications such as scheduling and education. The end result is a dynamic site that meets the needs of a variety of constituencies: parishioners, staff, volunteers and those wishing to hold events in this magnificent Church.
